Mesa County is an area of 3342 square miles.71% is public lands. The population in 2006 is estimated to be 135,197. The county consists of the City of Grand Junction, City of Fruita and the towns of Palisade, Collbran and DeBeque. Grand Junction, the largest city on the Western Slope  serves the surrounding area for entertainment, medical technologies, shopping, and education.

There are many spectacular natural features in the Mesa County and the Grand Junction, Colorado area.

 

  • The Colorado National Monument a 20,000 acre park is a geological wonder with sheer walled canyons with myriad striated red tones. Through out the canyon the towering sandstone monoliths seem as if a sculptor had momentarily left his work.
  • McInnis Canyon National Conservation Area is a collection of geological features including unique sandstone formations, high desert wilderness terrain, rivers, canyons, river valleys and paleontologically significant dinosaur quarries.
  • The Grand Mesa National Forest. The Mesa is on of the largest flat toped mountains in the world. The Grand Mesa is at an elevation of 10,000 feet, from many places you can see incredible views of the Grand Valley and the San Juan mountain range to the southeast. There are 300 plus lakes which provide excellent fishing.
  • Mount Garfield and the Bookcliff Mountains are the longest east to west mountain range in the United States. They stretch 180 miles to Price. Utah. The Bookcliffs over look Grand Junction Co Valley floor from an elevation of 6000 feet. With canyon walls of 2000 feet.
  • The Colorado and Gunnison Rivers meet in the Junction and offer recreational opportunities such a rafting, fishing, and kayaking. Along the Colorado River there are miles and miles of biking and hiking trails. The Colorado River was once called the Grand River. The junction with the Gunnison River gave the town its name…..Grand Junction.

Mesa County has it all. Beautiful scenery, job opportunities, shopping, friendly people all in an area that feels but is not a small city make our area a wonder place to live.

Avalon Theatre

The Avalon was built in 1923 by Walter Walker the publisher, it is the largest Performing Arts Hall on the Western Slope.  Over the years famous people such as: Al Jolson, The John Philip Sousa Orchestra, Ethel Barrymore, Collective Soul, Lyle Lovett, John Prine and Pat Benetar preformed here. Still under renovation the façade and lobby have been completely restored. The intimate layout, excellent acoustical quality and great visibility makes every seat in the house a easy to see the stage. The Avalon also rents out the Theater year round.
